It was on the 1974 tour of England, when&nbsp;India made their ODI debut against on 13th July. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>India lost their debut match but their performance was way above the expectations specially in the batting. Present below are the highlights of the match:<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>1st ODI - India vs England, 1974 (Headingley, Leeds)<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p># England Captain Michael Denness won the toss and opted to field.&nbsp;Ajit&nbsp;Wadekar was leading the Indian side.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p># For India, Sunil Gavaskar and Sudhir Naik opened the innings.&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p># Indian Innings - 265\/10 in 53.5 Overs<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p># Brijesh Patel (82 off 78 balls), Captain Ajit Wadekar (67 off 82 balls) scored half centuries whereas&nbsp;Farrukh Engineer (32), Sunil Gavaskar (28) also contributed&nbsp;with the bat. Chris Old took 3 wickets while GG Arnold, RD Jackman, RA Woolmer took 2 wickets each.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p># England Innings - 266\/6 in 51.1 Overs<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p># England won the 55 overs a side game quite comfortably reaching&nbsp;the&nbsp;victory target with 6 wickets down and 23 balls to spare.&nbsp;J Edrich scored match winning 90 from 97 balls. A Greg (40), K Fletcher (39), D Llyod (34) were other contributors with the bat.
