Representing India Brings Unique Pressure; Tennis Will Keep Delivering Results: Rohit Rajpal
Davis Cup World Group Qualifiers: Playing for the country in marquee events like the Asian Games and Davis Cup brings a distinct level of responsibility compared to when playing individual events all around the year, said Rohit Rajpal, the non-playing captain for India in the Davis Cup.
Rajpal, a bronze medallist in tennis in the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, further expressed confidence in tennis continuing its strong medal-winning tradition at the upcoming multi-sport event, to be played in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. The event will happen right after India takes on hosts South Korea in the Davis Cup World Group Qualifiers Round 2 in Seoul on September 18 and 19.
“No, it's just completely different. I mean, there, you're playing for yourself and your career. You do what you want. Here, you do have a responsibility because you're playing for your country. So, it's a different kind of pressure that playing for your country and your flag brings to you when in Davis Cup or playing in Asian Games,” Rajpal told IANS in an exclusive conversation, facilitated by subscription-free OTT platform VETO.
