पूर्व भारतीय बल्लेबाज अंशुमान गायकवाड़ को उनकी धैर्य और दृढ़ संकल्प के साथ बल्लेबाजी करने के लिए उनके खेल के दिनों के समय एक 'दीवार' माना जाता था, चाहे वह जमैका के सबीना पार्क में वेस्टइंडीज की तेज गेंदबाजी आक्रमण का सामना करना हो या फिर जालंधर की पिचों पर पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ बल्लेबाजी करनी हो, जहां की पिचें बल्लेबाजों के लिए बेहद खतरनाक मानी जाती थी।

पूर्व भारतीय चयनकर्ता और कोच गायकवाड ने आईएएनएस से भारत और इंग्लैंड के बीच जारी चार मैचों की टेस्ट सीरीज के दूसरे और तीसरे टेस्ट मैच पर बात की, जहां बल्लेबाज बल्लेबाजी करने के लिए संघर्ष करते नजर आए।
